The White House is considering imposing a domestic travel ban on some countries, including Mexico, China, South Korea and India, according to multiple reports.
The move would likely face resistance from the United States’ southern neighbor, Mexico, which is one of the most aggressive critics of Trump’s border wall.
The president has repeatedly called for a ban, but the issue has yet to gain widespread support in Congress.
Trump also plans to issue an executive order on trade in January, but has yet announced the date of that order.
The White, House and Treasury departments have not provided details of what measures would be in the order.
While Trump has been largely silent on the issue, he did call for a review of the U.S. trade relationship with China during his recent visit to the country, calling the trade deficit with that nation “out of control.”
China has been criticized for the trade imbalance, which accounts for more than $1 trillion of the country’s annual GDP.
