Chicago’s transportation system has imposed travel restrictions to prevent people from leaving the city without a valid visa, according to a statement from the Chicago Department of Transportation.
The department said it was making the restrictions “because of the recent spate of violence, particularly against foreign nationals.”
The city also suspended bus services for all public transportation users and issued a statement to CNN on Tuesday saying it was taking the safety of all Chicagoans into account.
It’s not clear when the new restrictions will be implemented.
Travel agencies are already being asked to keep people away from Chicago because of its high crime rate and the city’s heavy population density.
